Early Ray City Motorist Runs Down Valdostan

According to newspaper accounts, D.W. Smith was a resident of Rays Mill, GA in 1915.  Little can be said about his family history or even what his given name was; additional historical records have not been forthcoming.  Other than perhaps a bad driver, who was D.W. Smith?

Atlanta Constitution. May  16, 1915.

Valdosta, Ga., May 15 – (Special) – B.S. Richardson, a prominent real estate and insurance man , was run down and severely injured by an automobile here today.
The automobile was driven by D.W. Smith of Rays Mill, and the accident occurred in a crowded business section of Patterson street.
The front wheels of the car, which was, fortunately, a light roadster, ran over Mr. Richardson’s chest after hurling him to the pavement and badly skinning his face and hands.
Smith was arrested and later gave bond and released.  His car was traveling slowly at the time and was under good control.  Mr. Richardson’s injuries are not serious.
